Just stumbled upon a  great podcast today at Adbase. Rarely do photographers get the chance to hear first hand what art buyers, art directors, and photo editors are looking for. Luckily for me (and hopefully for you too) Juliette Wolf-Robin provides an informative interview with today’s creatives. It’s important to keep up to date with the ever changing market and I feel these podcasts do just that. If your serious about your work and want to make a business out of photography than I strongly recommend listening to and supporting Adbase.

What have I got myself into? I just signed myself up to the mercy of gravity. However I figured that if I was going to plummet to the Earth than why not bring your friends along Anyways in the manner that I usually work, I decided to sign up for this once in a lifetime experience on a whim and with little time to actually think about it. There’s a skydiving school in Atlanta that we’ll be going to this Friday. I’ll be sure to post a few pictures from the free-fall as I assume they take video to document. Let’s just hope that footage doesn’t end up being used in the obituary. Oh what an optimist.

I just wanted to say thanks for all the really nice emails I’ve been getting from everyone. It’s those emails that make we want to create more and more work. Currently I’m in the process of finishing up a group of images I did for Alex Uhlig’s fashion collection. The model Caitlin McNeil and Alex’s designs helped make the shoot go along smoothly. Anyways I wanted to let everyone know that I will be kicking my blog into high gear and try to post something insightful, inspiring, or just plain funny every day or at least every other day. I come across to many interesting things each day that I can’t just keep to myself – that would be selfish. Signing out…..

I entered a competition a while ago that I was pretty excited about. It was put on my the PhotoWorkshop and offered some good exposure and great prizes nonetheless. While I didn’t win any of the neat prizes, I did happen to get two honorable mentions in the Photo Illustration category and they are also up for consideration to be on the cover or inside pages of the magazine Double Exposure. Check out the winner gallery as well as my two images. It would be great news to see them up in this national magazine because as an artist, there is nothing more valuable than exposure… except double exposure I guess

If you are any type of artist and you don’t have an account, than you better jump on it quick – as I think its one of the few sites that actually understands how the internet is evolving, with its interactive site layout and community based feedback. Anyway I had the great opportunity to be featured on their main site. Unbeknown to me it exposed my work worldwide and allowed me to get in touch with many creative professionals, magazines, and collaborations. If you do have an account than add me into your inner circle because as always I love to hear feedback and see inspiring work from other super talented artists.

Bonjour! Just spent an amazing 8 weeks studying abroad in southern France. It was a small quaint town called Lacoste, where the American students overpopulated the locals. The famous Marqui de Sade built his chateau atop the hill of Lacoste and is now the residence of French fashion designer Pierre Cardin. My studies took me all around the Provencal region, Paris, Marseille and the beautiful Meditteranean, as well as Barcelona and the Swiss Alps. It was a great experience that opened my eyes (and stomach) to the appealing French culture (foie gras and escargot couldn’t even scare me away). At the end of the 8 weeks, the art students put on a gallery showing (know to the French as Vernissage) to showcase our work. It covered printmaking, graphic design, photography, and painting. I took on the daunting task of dry-mounting eight 40″ x 10″ inkjet prints onto 2″ MDF composite board, to which I carefully painted the sides and back white.  Turned out to be worth the elbow grease since most of the prints sold! I would love to go on about my experiences but unfortunately your going to have to visit yourself to see how great Europe is… if you haven’t already.

Oh happy days… some of the sweat, tears, and blood-well maybe not tears or blood, but definitely sweat has paid off. Digital Photo Pro awarded me with the 1st Place award in the “Fine Art” category. It’s great news especially with my up and coming trip to Lacoste, France which is going to be expensive. This year they had some ridiculous number of entries so it was a great honor to be put in a group of many talented professional photographers. Here’s the link to the article is if you want to check it out. I’m not sure why the image is over-saturated but apparently that’s how they like it. And the article was nice to read simply because it’s nice to be written about. I uploaded the whole questionnaire that they asked me here if you’d like to see. Anyways I need to go to bed (school finals have absorbed any and all personal time). I just wanted share my excitement before my eyes unwillingly decide to close.

Well unfortunately the title is extremely misleading because I can’t think of 55 reasons to do anything. But what I can do is give you one reason on why Polaroid Type-55 film is/was so amazing. It is unpredictable-simply put. Therefore it is exciting. I know it’s not the best film to fall in love with since Polaroid backed out of the analog industry but I sure can say that I’m enjoying every last bit of it that’s around. At the end of every quarter, Craig Steven’s inkjet printing class (which I’m in) puts on a “BIG PICTURE SHOW” of 3-feet tall prints. Recycling old images to print gets well… old, so instead I used some Type-55 sheets leftover from my studio class, rather than letting the film rot in the deep caverns of my photo locker. Here’s the results that I plan on printing for the show, which I also posted in the Polaroid gallery. The reason they look so strange is because the shadows solarized due to colder temperatures. Wish I could say it was done on purpose… so I guess I will.

Ahah! It’s a nice feeling when I happen to finish something rather than just starting another project and throwing it in with the rest of the unfinished projects. While this series isn’t done yet, it’s coming near the end of the quarter. Thus, the end of consistent head aches, over strained eyes, and wierd eating patterns. But who knows I might extend the project back into the personal realm. Anyways, thanks Zach for modeling in this one. Sorry about your house…

Finished another image for the series “City of Exile.” It sure is taking much longer than I expected to finish these pictures. Although from experience, it seems to be the way it always goes—oh well. Thanks to Austin for helping me lug all of that heavy lighting equipment out there and Corey, Zulmarie, and Dana for modeling. I hope you guys get comfortable with sewer rats and brown water because the future looks dark and musty. But then again there’s alway space…
