While I have a lot of projects that are in the works and should be done soon, I thought I would post a fashion image that I’m currently working on. The potential of the image hasn’t been fully realized yet but here’s what I got so far… Read more »

The bar has just been raised…

Retouching, Video on October 7th, 2009 No Comments

If you’ve been in the photosphere recently than you’ve probably heard of Photosketch. For those of you who haven’t then be sure to look at the video below. It’s a prototype software from students in China that grabs images from the web and then composites them according to any sketches that you provide. To be honest Tao Chen does a much better job at describing the project so I will quote him from his site on Vimeo…

We present a system that composes a realistic picture from a simple freehand sketch annotated with text labels. The composed picture is generated by seamlessly stitching several photographs in agreement with the sketch and text labels; these are found by searching the Internet. Although online image search generates many inappropriate results, our system is able to automatically select suitable photographs to generate a high quality composition, using a filtering scheme to exclude undesirable images. We also provide a novel image blending algorithm to allow seamless image composition. Each blending result is given a numeric score, allowing us to find an optimal combination of discovered images. Experimental results show the method is very successful; we also evaluate our system using the results from two user studies.

Bring it on gravity

Got back from my skydiving trip and man was it a blast. It’s like no other feeling and the only way I can describe it is by comparing the feeling to going down a roller coaster without a harness multiplied by 100. I’m glad I forked over the extra money to get the video and pictures since you can only have one “first” skydiving experience. Here’s three pictures from on ground and in the air. I was actually suprised with the quality and resolution of the images they gave me. Kinda would have figured that they would be pixelated and compressed files – luckily I was wrong. Anyways I’m now in the process of editing the video, so I hope to have that uploaded here soon.

Savannah Music Festival Cover

Business on October 3rd, 2009 1 Comment

Savannah has a great Jazz scene. The city just finished up it’s week long Jazz Festival in the park. I hope all those who live around the area or those who were traveling were able to make it. I make sure to go every year as it is a really chill atmosphere to lounge with friends and listen to great tunes. Savannah also has a music festival this coming year from March 18 to April 3, 2010. The festival contacted me to do the cover image for the event. It was a really fun project that allowed me free use of creativity and very little constraints. I modeled the image after my series BAK2BA6 (Back to Basics) by combining every day objects to form a completely new image when combined. The music festival has a really great lineup and I would strongly recommend lovers of all music to pencil it in their calender. See you there.

Interview in Otaku Magazine

Interview, Magazine on October 1st, 2009 No Comments

Awhile ago I was approached by a creative magazine called Otaku Magazine. It’s a foreign publication based out of Romania I believe that features artist work based on a particular theme. The 6th issue entitled “End of the World” was just released and is available to order at the website. It focuses on (you guessed it” apocalyptic imagery from all over the world. The magazine’s creative director felt that my “City of Exile” series fit quite well with the idea. I’m excited to get my hands on a copy as it seems like a very unique magazine.

A little early for snow

As it often happens, I take some pictures that I enjoy but then lose them into the deep chasms of my hard drive. As I was looking for another file I came across some photographs of my last winter break back home in VT. We got a good ice storm followed by lots of snowfall, which made a nice “Winter Wonderland” sort of feel. It was times like this that make me love where I’m form. I uploaded several new/old images to the travel section. I hope you all enjoy

Art Buyers Tell All

Business, Interview on September 29th, 2009 No Comments

Just stumbled upon a  great podcast today at Adbase. Rarely do photographers get the chance to hear first hand what art buyers, art directors, and photo editors are looking for. Luckily for me (and hopefully for you too) Juliette Wolf-Robin provides an informative interview with today’s creatives. It’s important to keep up to date with the ever changing market and I feel these podcasts do just that. If your serious about your work and want to make a business out of photography than I strongly recommend listening to and supporting Adbase.

Jumping out of a plane

Fun, Travel on September 27th, 2009 No Comments

What have I got myself into? I just signed myself up to the mercy of gravity. However I figured that if I was going to plummet to the Earth than why not bring your friends along :-) Anyways in the manner that I usually work, I decided to sign up for this once in a lifetime experience on a whim and with little time to actually think about it. There’s a skydiving school in Atlanta that we’ll be going to this Friday. I’ll be sure to post a few pictures from the free-fall as I assume they take video to document. Let’s just hope that footage doesn’t end up being used in the obituary. Oh what an optimist.
