Lon-burgh-lin: Part 1

Friends, Fun, Travel on November 25th, 2011 No Comments

I’m so used to something going horribly wrong when I travel (ie: missing my international flight from Hong Kong to NYC or visiting a friend for snowboarding in Colorado who had just come down with the flu) that I often find myself waiting for and dreading those moments. However with so many possibilities for my last trip to go wrong, it ended up working without a hitch. Read more »

Photoshop PROJECTS: Volume 5

Interview on November 6th, 2011 1 Comment

I was recently interviewed for the fifth installment of Photoshop Projects magazine, which (as you probably already guessed) gives comprehensive tutorials to Photoshop novices and experts alike. Because of its European decent, the distribution is limited and thus why I am sharing here. While I’m definitely an advocate of Photoshop (when used right), it can often incite the traditionalist within the field. So for those photographers out there, shield your eyes from the composite fury I’m about to release… Read more »

Details Magazine: Shia LaBeouf

Retouching on November 1st, 2011 1 Comment

So he may not be the same ‘Even Stevens’ character that we all used to love, but he does seem to be appearing in a lot of high-profile movies these day. Actually, I’m gonna leave my film criticism out of this and go straight to the photography, since no one cares that the Transformers series, last Indiana Jones and Wall Street sequel were more of an excuse to show off a huge budget than a well developed plot. But I digress. Read more »

Elle UK: Coco Roscha

Retouching on October 27th, 2011 1 Comment

Although it is a little old now (in the fashion world that is), the Elle UK’s August issue was my first big cover story I retouched as a freelancer. It’s quite exciting to see your stuff out on the newsstands. The fun and spunky Coco Roscha, shot by Mattias Virens-McGrath made for a interesting fashion editorial. Usually I find myself skimming past graywall fashion shoots as I’m often more interested in the environment, however the model’s energy really shines in this one. Read more »

New Work, Retouching on October 25th, 2011 2 Comments

Wow, hiatus much? It seems as though I have let the blog get away from me, far far away. So in an attempt to overhaul this bad boy, I’m going to pretend as though the six month gap from the last post never happened. As a matter of fact, what gap? Read more »

Winter Fashion Editorial

Friends, Retouching on April 7th, 2011 3 Comments

Considering I’ve been retouching at Box Studios for a little under a year now, I’ve been able to study the work of my photo idols. One of them being the fantastic Paolo Roversi, who often graces the cover of Italian Vogue. For Michael Didyoung’s latest fashion editorial, we decided on going towards Paolo’s unique look (cool tones, natural lighting, longer exposures, askew body posture, and moody). It’s one of his first body of images that have affected me on a visceral level and keep me coming back to look at them. Read more »

Katie and Tristan’s Headshots

Friends on March 27th, 2011 4 Comments

As you may already know, my roommate Mike Didyoung and I have been working together for the past few months. It’s very important for us to stay busy with personal work even with our hectic work schedules. In an effort to take advantage of Seliger’s studio that Mike has access to, he’s been taking head shots of our close friends here in NYC. Read more »

Hong Kong Gallery Talk

Business, School, Travel on January 20th, 2011 2 Comments

I just returned from an amazing trip to the “Manhattan of Asia,” better known as Hong Kong. SCAD was gracious enough to fly me halfway across the world (16 hours yuck!) to give an artist talk at the final reception for my solo show “City of Exile.” The exhibit was on display from October 25th til January 15th and went over without a hitch due to the lovely hardworking gallery staff. Amidst a Maze of Maize

New Work on November 11th, 2010 7 Comments

With a love for double entendres, I felt it only fitting to use the said homonyms for this editorial series. My lovely model Ali Schiek traveled with me back to my home state of Vermont to experience what a “true” fall season should be like. Our appetite was satisfied with a fair share of maple syrup, pumpkin pies, apple picking, hayrides, leaf-peeping, and yes… corn mazes. Read more »
